Build on the success of ‘Qigong and Meditation Hybrid Course’ in 2021 as part of the Tackling Inequalities Fund, ‘Faye Tai Chi Friends’, a new community group, is very excited to launch another new FREE Qigong course for relaxation and falls prevention, which focuses on healthy living for adults in Telford and Wrekin, encouraging realistic and sustainable changes that can help people to reduce stress and anxiety, raise the awareness of posture and balance.

About the course

Qigong is an ancient Chinese healing exercise regime that combines quiet meditation, controlled breathing and gentle movements. The biggest benefit of practising Qigong is to calm the mind reduce stress and anxiety which is important for mental health. The breathing technique with gentle movement helps to put the internal organs at ease and improve their functions. The gentle movements help to raise the awareness of postural alignment and balance control, proven to be effective for falls prevention.

The course is particularly beneficial for people who are recovering from the after-effects of Covid-19 infection, other long-term respiratory conditions and people who are at risk of falling. It is very widely practised in hospitals in China during the pandemic to help patients to recover from Covid-19. We have also received lots of feedback from students that Qigong and meditation have helped them immensely stay physically active and support their mental wellbeing during the lockdowns.

The Course includes one-hour gentle breathing exercises, acupuncture Tui Na self-massage talks, guidance on how to incorporate positive habits into your daily routine, emphasising the importance of physical activity as well as mental wellbeing, followed by tea and social chat afterwards. And the course is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The course is funded by the ‘Commonwealth Games Fund’ from Sports England through local partner Energize. Whilst the main aim of the course is to provide a face-to-face class for the residents of Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, we will continue to provide online option with live streaming via Zoom to extend the service to areas all around the UK for those who struggle with transport or live in remote, isolated areas.
